When Mercedes Benz debuted the W463 chassis G-Class in 1990, its plan was to move the G-Class into the luxury marketplace, setting aside its utilitarian roots for S-Class style interior appointments. Almost immediately, the G-Class evolved from a car that was purchased by farmers and militaries, to a car that was in direct competition with high-end Range Rovers. As the G-Class’s popularity grew, a constant criticism was the lackluster performance the standard engine options offered. Although the model had moved upmarket, many of the smaller, largely diesel-based powertrains remained, which were hardly adequate for moving around a vehicle of such size and weight. In the early 2000s, AMG began offering G-Classes with V8s taken from their performance sedans, and in 2012, the G63 went on sale. Powered by a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the G63 produced 563 horsepower and a massive 590 lb-ft of torque at just 1,700 rpm. On the outside, a revised front grille was installed that made the car look more aggressive while also aiding in cooling and the exhausts were moved from exiting in the rear to coming out under the running boards just behind the back doors. Massive six-piston brakes were fitted up front and a revised suspension setup was installed for improved handling.

In 2016, Mercedes debuted the G63 463 Edition- gaining its name from the internal chassis code for the G-Class, this limited edition version bestowed the G63 with numerous special touches not available elsewhere in the G-Class range. The most notable features of the 463 Edition are the unique black side stripe package and lightweight forged 21” wheels taken from the C63 507 Edition. What you can’t see is an under-car stainless steel armor setup that is designed to save the vital bits of the car from damage off-road. On the interior, Designo Nappa leather covers the seats and dashboard and all of the trim which is traditionally wood, is finished in striking gloss carbon fiber.

Delivered in December of 2016, this G63 463 Edition has had just two owners from new and is finished in striking Designo Magno Night Black. According to the build sheet, the 463 Edition side graphics package was deleted at the factory but the matte black paint and matching 21” wheels look perfect when paired together. The interior is finished in black Designo leather with white diamond patterned stitching on the seats, doors, and even a portion of the rear hatch. This G63 has a massive list of desirable options on it including a Harman Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound system, rear seat entertainment as well as rear seat heating, and Parktronic front and rear parking sensors. Showing just 47.445 km, this car has only been serviced by an AMG-certified Mercedes shop and shows few signs of wear throughout. Regardless of whether you plan to use this car around town, in the snow, or to help get up a rutted road on the way to your house in the mountains, the G63 is a truck that can get you anywhere both quickly and with exceptional style.
