When it was introduced, the Ferrari 488 was the latest in a long line of mid-engined “baby Ferraris” dating back nearly 50 years to the 206 Dino of 1967. Among that legendary line are icons such as the 308 and 355, cars which are anything but “baby” in the minds of enthusiasts. The 488 was the first of these cars to ever employ a turbocharged motor (well not quite, 2.0 liter turbocharged versions of the 308 and 328 were offered in Italy only to avoid punitive taxes for cars exceeding 2 liters in displacement), which caused considerable hand-wringing among Ferrari purists. It also caused a massive transformation in real-world performance. While the 458’s torque peak is 398 ft-lb at 6000 RPM, the 488 makes 561 ft-lb at 3000 RPM. The resulting performance is difficult to fathom, but suffice it to say, the car is an absolute rocket, with 0-60 in 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 205 MPH.

This particular car is a Spider model with retractable hardtop. It is a two-owner car which spent its life in Washington DC and Georgia before its second owner purchased the car and brought it to Northern California. It is optioned with carbon fiber rear air ducts, side splitters, B-post trim, Scuderia shields, parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, sport sill covers, 20” forged black wheels, sport exhaust, heat insulating windshield, black brake calipers, carbon fiber driver zone, dash inserts, and central bridge, white stitching and embroidered cavallini on the headrests, white rev counter, premium hi-fi system, and electric seats. Cosmetically excellent car without scrapes on the underside of the front bumper thanks to the fitment of protectors. Leather gouge on driver’s door trim and fuel door release button missing. Underside generally excellent with cosmetic damage to plastic undertray and minor oil seepage from engine.
