Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale is the brand’s tribute to commemorate 90 years of Scuderia Ferrari and is the fastest mid-engine road car ever to come out of the gates at Maranello. For the first time since the LaFerrari hypercar, the SF90 combines a turbocharged petrol-powered V8, with electric power, making for an unfathomably potent car. For the design of the SF90, Ferrari dug deep into the lessons they learned racing in Formula 1 and combined it with some classic design elements from race cars of their past to make a truly striking automobile. In total, only 500 SF90s were produced, making it one of the rarest modern cars to come from the brand and a sure-fire modern collectible.
This SF90 is a beautiful example, finished in a special order shade of Rosso Fiorano with a deviating black roof, and shows just 3,650 miles on the odometer. The two-tone paint scheme on this car is particularly attractive and toes the line between exotic and understated like few colors can on a car like this. To continue with this theme, the 20” wheels are painted graphite metallic and feature a diamond-turned finish on the flat sections of the spokes, and a set of massive Alluminio-painted brake calipers sit behind them. Numerous bits of extra carbon fiber have also been specified as contrast around the car, consisting of the rear diffuser, side air splitter, front spoiler, and the under-door cover. Along with the Scuderia Shields on the front fenders, the car has a truly cohesive appearance and must be one of the most tasteful-looking SF90s around.
On the inside, everything is covered in black leather with special red deviated stitching on the seats, dashboard, door cards, and steering wheel. The full power comfort-oriented seats feature Daytona style inserts and Cavallinos stitched on the headrests and provide an excellent place to sit while putting on the miles. The SF90 is already packed with technology as far as the underpinnings are concerned, but to make this car even more enjoyable to use, the original owner specified a number of interior tech upgrades as well. This car has been equipped with a premium Hi-Fi sound system, as well as an Advanced Front Driving Camera for easier maneuvering in tight spaces. This is also helped by the addition of the desirable front-end lift system which has been fitted to this car and adds significantly to the practicality of a low car such as the SF90.
Propelling the SF90 is perhaps the most advanced power unit to come out of Ferrari to that point- a combination of gas and electric, that when used in combination, makes the car capable of 986 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to better the LaFerrari’s time around the Fiorano Circuit. The twin-turbocharged V8 is a derivative of that found in the 488 Pista and F8 Tributo but the displacement has been increased to 4.0 liters- this motor alone produces 769 horsepower. It is then paired to a 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and three electric motors which produce 217 horsepower, allowing for 16 miles of fully electric range. When working in concert, the SF90 has power at all four wheels with torque vectoring up front, making for a blisteringly fast road car with a claimed 0-62 mph time of just 2.5 seconds. The engine’s power is then sent through an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox which interestingly, has no reverse gear, as the propulsion for backing up is handled by the electric motors. This system is astounding in its complexity but offers an irreplicable driving experience and everything works together seamlessly.
There is no doubt that the SF90 is a truly special car for Ferrari and marks the true beginning of the gas-electric combination we now see in the 296GTB. With only 500 units produced for the world, it is also one of the rarest Ferraris to come out of the company in the last few decades which is sure to make it even more sought after in years to come. This example with its stunning color combination and wonderful list of options will prove an excellent addition to any Ferrari collection.
