The Ferrari 308 was one of the most successful vehicles ever built by the Italian brand- and not just in sales alone. Its gorgeous styling and appearances both on the TV and in movies, made Ferrari a household name around the world. So, in 1986 when the time had come for them to replace it with a new model, they made sure to not stray too far from what works while vastly improving the product. The 328 is clearly an update on the classic 308 design but updated, fewer hard corners and edges are paired with a sleeker front end and body-color bumpers give the 328 the injection of modernity that was needed while still keeping the classic 308 shape alive. Mechanically, the 2.9-liter V8 in the 308 was replaced by a 3.2-liter unit with a host of updates throughout to give it more power, while also making it more livable and pleasant to drive. A greatly improved Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system was paired with a Marelli electronic ignition system to help the 328 effortlessly pass American emissions standards while also allowing the car to idle and drive far more smoothly than even the best 308. Between this new injection system, 4 valves per cylinder, and the greater displacement, power for the 328 increased to 270 hp which helped the 328 run from 0-60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The 328 is considered by many to be one of the most reliable classic Ferraris- the engine and gearbox are notoriously robust and thanks to the transverse layout, the engine does not need to come out of the car to replace timing belts like on the later 348 and F355 series cars. The interior was largely improved over the 308 as well- new, more comfortable seats were installed and the push-pull levers in the center console that controled the HVAC were replaced by an electronic system that is far simpler to work. The simple dashboard layout remained with a large speedometer and tachometer positioned right in front of the driver, and a suite of auxiliary gauges rest just above the stereo head unit to the driver’s right-hand side. Offered in both GTB (hardtop) and GTS (targa top), the 328 was one of the last Ferraris that was signed off by Enzo Ferrari and remains a perfect sports car that can be taken out and enjoyed frequently.

This 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS is finished in the classic Ferrari color combination of Rosso Corsa over tan and has been a California car since new. First sold by Newport Imports out of Newport Beach, CA in January of 1986, the car has been meticulously cared for from new and has a massive file of service records dating back over 20 years to prove it. Most recently, the car received both an engine and gearbox fluid change in April 2022 and the last belt service was completed in April of 2020. Between those services, the car has been treated to new CV boots, a water pump, coolant hoses, a brake fluid flush, some new fuel lines, and vacuum hoses as well as addressing of other assorted wear items. Although largely original, this car does have a set of period, multi-piece HRE alloy wheels similar to those found on a 288 GTO as well as an aftermarket stereo and muffler. Given that the car is almost 40 years old, it remains in outstanding condition throughout with both the interior and exterior presenting more like that of a car that is just a few years old. The 328 GTS represents a great opportunity to get into a Ferrari with the legendary gated manual transmission, fantastic handling, and a great engine, all at a reasonable cost. Included with the sale are the original books, tools, jack, service records, and a Schedoni leather suitcase.
