Introduced in 2004 at the Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari F430 was among the most advanced Ferrari road cars ever at the time. Gaining more than half a liter of displacement and 83hp, the engine is an 8,500 RPM naturally-aspirated screamer that produces more than 110hp per liter. Also noteworthy was the transition from timing belt to timing chain, which dramatically reduced the complexity and cost of major services. The car was sharpened, both dynamically and aesthetically over its 360 forebear. The Pininfarina design, led by Frank Stephenson, enhanced downforce through the use of advanced aerodynamic testing while twin front ovoid air intakes recalled the legendary 1961 156 Formula 1 car’s “shark nose.” The platform was an evolution of the 360’s groundbreaking aluminum chassis, while additional mechanical innovations included an electronic limited slip active differential (E-Diff), Manettino steering wheel controls for the first time on a Ferrari road car, and Skyhook electronically adjustable suspension.
This particular car is an exceptionally clean example that also drives beautifully. It is well-optioned with electric Daytona seats, carbon fiber dashboard inserts, leather headliner and rear shelf, red tachometer, hi-fi sound system, Scuderia shields, and red brake calipers. Clearly owned by fastidious and passionate keepers, it presents very crisply, even taking into account its low mileage of 4,800. The leather is unusually nice condition and there are few flaws to speak of, with the common interior “stickies” being the only noteworthy issue. The car sits on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and received a new clutch in August 2017 at 3,900 miles. The car has an usually well-resolved powertrain with superb throttle response and well-calibrated gearbox and transmission, far from a given with these cars.
