The partnership between Aston Martin and Zagato dates back over 60 years to the 1960 London Motor Show, where the DB4 GT Zagato was introduced to the world. Built to be more aerodynamic and lighter than the standard DB4 GT, it was Aston Martin’s plan to use this car to take the fight to the Ferrari on the track, yet in the process, they created one of the most beautiful cars ever produced. This pairing of Aston Martin’s exceptional engine and chassis building, combined with Zagato’s unique, forward-looking styling, spurred on a relationship between the two companies that has carried on into the present day. Their most recent project was first shown at the 2016 Villa d’Este Concours in Lake Como- based on Aston Martin’s V12-powered Vanquish, Zagato showcased 4 new body styles which would be available in ultra-limited numbers. A coupe and convertible were the cars people were expecting but at the same time, they unveiled a long roof shooting brake and a Speedster with a chopped down windshield and carbon fiber humps behind the driver and passenger. Production was set at 99 of each body style except for the Speedster, of which they were only going to produce 28- for a total of 325 cars. Powered by an upgraded version of the V12 found in the Vanquish S, the Zagatos produce 595 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque which allowed them to sprint from 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds and go on to a top speed in excess of 200 mph.

The Zagato touches are unique on all of the different variants of the Vanquish Zagato but the Speedster is particularly special. With a body built entirely out of carbon fiber, the Speedster is immediately identifiable by the bare carbon fiber “Speed Humps” behind the driver and passenger. This is a styling cue seen on many speedster-style cars and in this instance, also harkens back to the double bubble roof which is a Zagato design signature. The front grille has been expanded and takes up the vast majority of the front of the car and features a subtle Zagato touch of “Z” style grille mesh as well as round LED driving lights at either corner. The special lighting is continued in the rear with Zagato-specific LED tail lights with illuminated blades, connected by a black center section that makes the lights look like they are floating at night. On the inside, the Z motif is continued in the stitching on both portions of the seats and the door cards which are beautifully integrated and blend in with the ultra-high quality interior finishings Aston Martin has become known for.

This 2018 Vanquish Speedster was ordered new in Aston Martin Lava Red over a rich tan leather interior. Delivered new in July of 2018, the car shows a mere 325 km from new and remains in outstanding overall condition. The original owner of this car took advantage of Aston Martin and Zagato’s extensive use of carbon fiber and ordered numerous exterior pieces in exposed gloss carbon. The deep front splitter and the whole rear bumper and diffuser are completely carbon and look outstanding while also providing additional aerodynamic assistance. Carbon fiber is also found on the lower rocker panels as well as the windshield frame and hood vents. On the inside, the unique square One-77 style steering wheel has been specified and the center stack is finished in the Zagato-only herringbone look carbon fiber trim. Aston Martin has long been known for building beautiful cars and when Zagato is involved, they help take Aston’s shapes to the next level. This example has been carefully looked after since new and represents a unique opportunity to acquire 1 of just 28 Zagato Speedsters produced in essentially showroom condition. Included with the sale are an Aston Martin umbrella, car cover and factory books and manuals.
