1975 BMW R90S

BMW's first superbike.

The R90 S has been the motorcycle that changed the perspective of how BMW was intended by motorcyclists around the world. Call it a milestone, a turning point and a proper grand-touring superbike, the R 90S was the bike no one was expecting to be made by BMW.

The 70ies were the era of the first maxi-motorcycles: the CB750, Triumph Trident, Laverda SF750, Kawasaki Mach 3 were all powerful brutes that brought power to never-seen-before heights. The R90S fell in as a competent motorcycle with its own remarkably German attitude and functionality that elevated the twin cylinder boxer engine to new figures.

Penned by Hans A.Muth, the stylist who later designed the immortal Suzuki Katana, the R90S distinguished itself from the successful /5 series for its sleek look and unique livery. With 67 hp it was more powerful than its Japanese rivals, it was one of the most exclusive bikes on the road in the 70ies: consider that its retail price was the same as a mid-size saloon!

This genuine Italian market late-1975 second-series example is finished in the classic tint of Silberrauch and comes equipped with a set of period Krauser bags. Restored fully in 2019 with many original BMW parts it retains its original plates and documents and has had only 3 owners from new. Having covered less than 40.000 km from new it's the perfect machine for the discerning BMW enthusiast who has a definitive passion for speed.
