One of the most iconic vehicles ever made, the Land Rover Defender earned its reputation serving landowners domestically in the UK and British Empire and other far flung territories overseas. The original Land Rover was introduced in 1948, and was developed continuously until finally being phased out in 2016, a remarkable 67-year production run that cemented the reputation of Land Rover as a manufacturer of durable workhorse vehicles that were nearly unstoppable in even the roughest conditions. Rebranded as the Defender in the 1980s, the vehicle’s anachronistic character ultimately became one of its selling points and helped a resurgence in interest which has driven the Defender to become genuinely collectible.
Because most Defenders originally served as workhorses, they tended to be used hard and an industry developed around restoring them as well as upgrading them for specific missions whether it was rock crawling or overland adventure camping. One of the very best in the business is Arkonik, which restores and upgrades Defenders to the highest standards, both cosmetically and mechanically.
This is one such Defender, a 1992 example completely restored in 2018 which as covered just 2,400 miles since being completed. Upgrades include satin black chequer plate, KAHN Defend 1948 alloys shod with BFGoodrich TA KO2 tires, satin black SVX grille, A-bar with LED spotlights, Frontrunner roof rack with LED spotlights, Ebony Fire & Ice side steps, Raptor black steering & front differential guard, NAS rear step, leather interior, OEM heated front seats, three high-back center row seats, matching lock box between front seats, two lock & fold forward facing seats in load area, brushed alloy gear knobs & door furniture, OEM steering wheel with leather trim, ice white LED lighting package, Alpine premium sound system with Apple CarPlay, air conditioning.
The car was commissioned by an American buyer, who imported it from the United Kingdom after its completion. It has completed its DOT and EPA processes and duty has been paid already. Additionally, a California compliance process has been performed and the vehicle is reportedly able to be titled and registered in California.
