One of the last Ferraris engineered and launched during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime, the 328 succeeded the highly popular 308 for the 1986 model year and offered a displacement increase from 2.9 to 3.2 liters, and a myriad of detail improvements throughout. Like its predecessor, its body was designed by the great Leonardo Fioravanti, who designed a large number of iconic Ferraris, starting with the 206/246 Dino and 365 GTB/4 Daytona, and running through the Boxer, 288 GTO, Testarossa and 348. The 308 was a significant commercial success and Ferrari elected to leave well enough alone by performing thoughtful but not invasive updates.

The mid-engined 328, offered in both hardtop (GTB) and Targa/Spider (GTS) forms, featured an upgraded 3.2-liter V8, which made 270 horsepower while also meeting strict American emissions standards, thanks to a sophisticated Marelli electronic ignition system and the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection of the 308. The styling was freshened with new door handles and tidier and more modern treatment to the front and rear fascias, both of which gained body color bumpers. The interior was significantly reworked as well, with new switchgear and revised dashboard and door trims. Production of the 328 ended in the fall of 1989, marking the end of the transverse mid engine Ferraris, a line that began with the 246 Dino. Nowadays, 328s are revered for their blend of usability and livability, as well as the comparative ease of servicing since the engine does not need to be removed to perform a belt service.

This particular 328 was sold new by Newport Imports in Newport Beach, California on the 11th of January 1986 and appears to have spent its entire life in California, as documented by a thick file of service records dating back more than 20 years, as well as Carfax entries going as far back as 1990. The car has been fastidiously maintained, with its most recent service completed in April 2022, which included changes of both the engine and gearbox oil. Its last belt service was performed in April 2020 and the car has covered 1,500 miles since. Other work done that this time included new CV boots, new water pump and coolant hoses, brake fluid replacement, miscellaneous seals and gaskets, windscreen washer fluid reservoir and pump, valve adjustment, miscellaneous fuel lines and vacuum hoses, and many other smaller items. The tires were replaced in February 2021, less than 1,000 miles ago. The car sits on what appear to be period HRE modular alloy wheels, and has an aftermarket stereo system and muffler, but is otherwise stock and complete, including books, tools, jack, and even a single Schedoni suitcase.
