The introduction of the BMW M2 in late 2015, was a return to form for the brand’s Motorsport division and hit on all of the things that enthusiasts love about that coveted “M” badge. To keep up with the growing demand for high-performance SUVs and large, insulated fast sedans, M had moved away from the small performance coupe and expertly tuned chassis that they made their name with decades before. Centered around BMW’s small, 2-series coupe, the M2 received aggressive rear box flares, a lightened sports suspension, and a powerful turbocharged inline-6 with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT gearbox to shift gears. The car was so popular amongst reviewers and enthusiasts that shortly after its launch, BMW began developing an even higher-performing version to be launched in 2018. Known as the M2 Competition, the new car was powered by the same S55 turbocharged inline-6 found in the contemporary M3 and M4 which gave the car an increase of 40 horsepower and 63 lb-ft of torque which was paired to a strikingly flat torque curve. The Competition was also graced with increased chassis stiffening and larger brakes as well as an upgraded cooling system to keep the car cool during fast driving.

This 2021 BMW M2 Competition is finished in Long Beach Blue Metallic and was first sold in June of 2021 at BMW of Vista in Vista, CA. Optioned with a desirable 6-speed manual transmission, this car has been well kept by its two owners and resided in California from new. The color Long Beach Blue Metallic was the launch color for the BMW M2 when it first came out and suits the shape of the car perfectly. This is paired with a set of the Competition-only 19” multi-spoke wheels which look great with their black painted spokes and polished faces.

The M2’s interior is finished in black Dakota leather interior with blue stitching to match the exterior color. Sitting in front of the driver is an elegant three spoke steering wheel with a pair of clear, backlit gauges to keep an eye on your speed and revs. This car has been optioned with the excellent sounding Harman Kardon sound system with Bluetooth connectivity and is also equipped with the Executive package giving the car wireless charging, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams and a heated steering wheel.

Powered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged S55 inline-6, the M2 Competition produces 405 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque which is available between 2,350 and 5,200 rpm. The S55 engine is similar to the N55 found in the regular M2 but is equipped with a lightweight crankshaft, stronger rods and pistons, two turbochargers as well as a revised cooling system and intercooler setup. This helps the car do the 0-60 run in 4.4 seconds and is electronically limited to 155 mph. In this car, the selection of a 6-speed manual transmission makes for a much more exciting driving experience and offers positive shift action and an easy to modulate clutch.

BMW has just began showing their next generation M2 to the public and it has created quite a stir with its controversial styling. By contrast, these first generation cars are classically good looking and offer just the right amount of technology and performance to make them great to use every day, or keep as a special weekend fun car.
