2021 Mercedes-Benz G63

2021 Mercedes-Benz G63

G Manufaktur Exclusive Edition in Moonlight White Matte with Nearly $35,000 in Options.

Famously borne out of a military contract in the late 1970s, the original Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen transitioned from a spartan and purposeful truck to a status symbol among cognoscenti and then once more to a mainstream status symbol during its absurd 39-year production run that finally concluded in 2018. In 2005, Mercedes announced that the vehicle would be phased out of the US market, which caused such an outcry that the decision was rescinded and the G remained on sale for another dozen years.

The legend of the G is built on capability and quality. There is something unashamedly authentic and focused about it that is manifested in its iconic aesthetic, something which has proven irresistible for buyers seeking to telegraph both their good fortune and their good taste. For its first genuine redesign, Mercedes wisely chose to leave as much of the G’s core essence as possible, right down to details that convey the unique quality of the truck such as the sounds of the doors closing or the central locking, both of which were carefully preserved. Under the skin however, nothing was preserved, and the G became genuinely modern and much more comfortable. In fact, the exterior door handles, headlight washers, and spare tire cover were the only parts carried over from the first generation G.

Available in both AMG and standard variants, the G that will most appeal to the slightly bonkers enthusiast will be the AMG G63, which does 0-60 mph in a shocking 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds at 110 mph despite having the aerodynamic drag of a medium-sized village.

This particular G63 is a one-owner example and is equipped with G Manufaktur individualization which includes G Manufaktur Moonlight White matte paint, Bengal Red interior, G Manufacktur Interior package plus (quilted upholstery, leather dash, active multi-contour seats with massage, rapid heating, and cooling, and more), and G Manufaktur Exclusive Edition (extensive black exterior trim, dark grey grille, tinted lights, AMG performance steering wheel, 22” wheels, carbon fiber engine trim). It also has red brake calipers and AMG matte carbon fiber exterior trim. In all, it has nearly $35,000 in options, for an original MSRP of $190,550. Having covered 1,100 miles from new, this G63 is in excellent condition and comes with books and window sticker.
