Barely a few years out of production, the S209 WRX STI has already emerged as very collectible. The final iteration of a legendary franchise, the S209 featured a number of technical upgrades to improve performance, and just 209 examples were built, creating a trifecta of reasons why the car has already become iconic. Subaru’s North American Director of Communications confirmed in March of 2022 that there would be no upcoming gasoline-only STI, leaving the S209 as the ultimate STI. It was created to send off the outgoing WRX STI, but was significantly upgraded with a larger turbocharger delivering more boost, higher flow fuel pump and larger injectors, and less restrictive intake manifold. The chassis was upgraded too, with flexible draw stiffeners (effectively chassis braces), wider track, stiffer springs and shocks, larger rear sway bar, and S209-specific tires, all of which permit a remarkable 1.04g of lateral acceleration. The rest of the car was upgraded too, with high friction brake pads, fender extensions, and dive planes.
