Significance

Since the Porsche 911 was introduced in 1964, most design changes were evolutionary instead of revolutionary, with alterations made for crash safety, tire fitment, and handling, but it never received a comprehensive redesign. But at the end of the 1980s, Porsche realized it was time to freshen the 25-year-old design and set to work on the first major shakeup in the model’s history. Debuting in 1989, the 964 was a design that was still distinctly Porsche but was 85% changed over its Carrera 3.2 predecessor. With new integrated impact bumpers and for the first time, the options of all-wheel-drive and a Tiptronic automatic gearbox, the 964 brought the 911’s technology up to date, while retaining much of the classic driving experience people came to love.

About this vehicle

Finished in one of Porsche’s classic colors- Grand Prix White- this 964 Carrera 2 was produced on July 13, 1993 and delivered new to Germany. Showing 103,497 km, this Carrera 2 has been under the care of just 3 owners from new and was imported to Italy in 1997. The white exterior looks fantastic with the black window and door trim found on 964s and a set of Porsche “Cup” wheels give the car an “RS” feel and are equipped with full-color crests on the center caps. As the 964 was such a nice blend of classic and modern 911, many of them have received significant modifications over the years, but this one remains essentially completely stock and is a perfect reference point for what a 964 driving experience feels like. Open the door, and you are greeted with a black partial-leather interior with a pair of comfortable bucket seats up front and two jump seats in the rear for smaller passengers. Heated 4-way power-adjustable seats have been optioned in the front, as have both air conditioning and a power sunroof. One of the things that makes the 964 such a desirable car is that it really represents the intersection between the classic 911s of the past 30 years, paired with much of the newer technology that was beginning to filter into high-end cars by the 1990s. In the center of the dash sits what is assumed to be the original Blaupunkt Symphony head unit with a cassette player that looks absolutely perfect in the dash and is a collectors item itself. Sitting out behind the passengers is a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated flat 6, rated at 247 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Although in modern terms, that doesn’t sound like much, it was enough to propel the 964 from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed in excess of 160 mph. This is then run through a 5-speed manual transaxle with the power being sent to the rear wheels. One of the largest changes on the 964 was the introduction of coil springs instead of the torsion bars that were fitted to all previous 911s. Using MacPherson struts up front and semi-trailing arms in the rear, the 964 offered more tunability and far more predictable handling at the limit. Porsche only produced the 964 for 5 years, and during that time, it was one of the lowest-production 911 generations, with only 18,219 Carrera 2 coupes built for the world. This is a beautiful example of what is fast becoming one of the most desirable generations of 911, offered in a great color combination and ready to be enjoyed.

Has a PPI been performed on this car recently? If so, can this report be shared?

No PPI has been performed yet but can be done at buyer’s request . The car is a good example, sold new in Germany in Sept 1993 and then to Italy in 1997. It has remained there since then, maintained regularly with stamps from services and invoices. Engine has not been overhauled or re-sealed as the mileage or current condition does not indicate a need yet. The last service was in December 2021.
