Significance

When the Ferrari 456 went on sale in July of 1992 in Europe, it marked a significant shift for the brand. After nearly two decades of wedge styling, the new Pinninfarina penned 456 was a return to the rounded grand touring cars Ferrari was known for in the 1950s and 1960s. The outgoing Ferrari 412 traced its lineage back to the 365 GT4 which began production in 1972 and with minimal changes to its design and mechanicals over the near 20 year production run, Ferrari wanted to start with a clean slate. Under the hood of the 456 was an all new V12- the F116 replaced the infamous Colombo derived V12 which dated back to Ferrari’s earliest years. The F116 shared some design elements with the contemporary Ferrari V8s but was a fresh design for the brand. The all-alloy engine displaced 5.5-liters, and utilized cutting edge Bosch Motronic M2.7 engine management to produce 436 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque which was enough to make it Ferrari’s most powerful regular production road car, and the fastest 4-seat car on sale with a top speed of over 190 mph. The chassis of the 456 was a tubular steel space-frame construction and the body panels are made of aluminum and modern composites. The interior was modernized significantly over the previous model- with clear instrumentation in front of the driver and across the lower dashboard with a simple row of switchgear beneath them. The cushy front seats were designed with long distance touring in mind and provide great support but do still allow for enough room in the rear for two more occupants to fit in relative comfort.

About this vehicle

This 1995 Ferrari 456 is a beautiful example produced in the first year that the car was available in the United States. Showing 54,159 miles from new, the car has been well cared for and is equipped with the desirable gated 6-speed manual transmission. This 456 is finished in a beautiful rich shade of LeMans Blue-the deep metallic shade suits the lines of the car perfectly. The interior is a unique two-tone of cream leather on the seats, lower dash, headliner, and mid-door cards, which is then complimented with blue leather and carpeting everywhere else. First registered in Seattle, Washington April of 1995, the car remained in the Pacific Northwest for the first 15 years before moving down to California in June of 2008. The first owner clearly enjoyed the car during their ownership, racking up over 41,000 miles before selling it at Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo in Portland, OR. Most recently, the car has resided in Texas where it was used sparingly over the last 8 years. The combination of a naturally aspirated V12 and a gated 6-speed manual transmission is something that every enthusiast needs to experience and with this wonderful 456, you can enjoy that with the practicality of 4 seats.
