Significance
The first car that emerged from Bentley’s rebirth under the Volkswagen group following its separation from Rolls-Royce after more than 70 years united, the Continental GT is a milestone car that redefined the direction of the company. Aside from that, it’s an incredibly compelling car and in fact, it’s these merits that have allowed it to so successfully transform the brand as it enters its second century.
Like any good product approved by VW CEO Ferdinand Piech, the core of the Continental GT is technical sophistication. The 6.0 liter twin-turbocharged W12 produces in excess of 550hp and transmits the power to the ground via four wheel drive, giving the car performance that belies its quintessentially British interior: 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a top speed just shy of 200 mph. Yet the car does so effortlessly and in supreme comfort for four adults and in this sense, it is the ultimate Grand Tourer: a car in which to cross continents at high speed in exceptional comfort.
About this vehicle
This particular example is a two-owner car, sold new in Florida. Its current owner purchased it as a Certified Pre-Owned car from British Motor Cars Distributor in San Francisco, California when it was three years old with 7,000 miles. Finished in the beautiful and timeless color combination of Dark Sapphire with Saddle leather interior, the car’s window sticker indicates additional equipment that included 19” chromed sports wheels, veneer inserts to the doors, rear quarter panels, and rear center armrests, lumbar massage for the front seats, and deep pile carpets with leather binding for a total MSRP of $181,635.
Despite having covered over 30,000 miles, the car is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, with only light cosmetic wear and a sheaf of invoices showing obsessive maintenance since the current owner purchased it in 2010. The car has received annual maintenance at the dealer regardless of mileage and has had anything else addressed that was required including the replacement of the water pump and one wheel bearing. It was last serviced in April of 2021 to include fresh brake fluid, an oil change, and new filters.
