Significance

Introduced to celebrate Ferrari's 16th Formula 1 Championship, the Scuderia Spider 16M was limited to just 499 units and was a significantly upgraded version of the F430, mirroring most of the changes that the Scuderia received over the F430 Coupe. One of the primary focuses of the changes was reduce weight, and indeed the 16M weighs approximately 175 pounds less than standard car thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber, lighter wheels, ceramic brakes, lighter bumpers and lightweight carbon fiber seats. The brakes were enlarged and the engine revised to increase power to 510hp thanks to revised intake and exhaust systems. The transmission was also revised to provide faster shifts.
