Significance

Since Ferrari’s earliest days as a manufacturer, California has been one of the company’s major markets. During the production of the Ferrari 250, they even made an open-top model aimed at buyers in the Golden State- the 250 GT California Spyder- which was then followed by the 365 California in 1966. These front-engine convertibles have become some of the most valuable cars in the world, so it made sense when Ferrari was looking to name its new front-engine convertible to bring the California moniker back. First shown at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the new Ferrari California was a departure for the brand, its first use of a V8 placed in the front, as well as the company’s first-ever power retractable hard top. With the first Californias going on sale in 2009, the car underwent a number of updates over the first generation’s 5-year run. But in 2014, Ferrari announced a fully updated variant known as the California T - which cleaned up the design of the original car and added a tremendous amount of performance as well.

About this vehicle

This 2016 Ferrari California T is finished in Rosso Corsa and shows 19,030 miles at the time of cataloging. Sold new through The Collection in Coral Gables, FL, the car remained in Florida until 2022, at which point it ended up with an owner in the San Francisco Bay Area. The California T is widely considered to be a much better-resolved design than the first-generation California, looking great with the hardtop up or when it it has been folded down. This example sits on a set of forged split-5 spoke wheels with a black and diamond-turned finish wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires and sit in front of Brembo carbon ceramic disc brakes with bright yellow calipers. From the factory, this car was fitted with Scuderia Shields on the front fenders, as well as a chrome egg crate style grille that harkens back to classic Ferraris. The interior is beige leather, extending beyond the seats to the door cards, lower dash, center console, and rear bulkhead. The dash layout will be familiar to anybody who has sat in a Ferrari of the 2010s, with a large central tachometer - finished in yellow - with an analog speedometer to the right and a configurable LCD screen to its left. What is different from most other Ferraris of the era, though, is that in between the two central HVAC vents sits a small LCD screen that displays boost pressure, reminding you of the exciting turbocharged powerplant under the hood. This California T has been equipped with a carbon fiber steering wheel with LCD shift lights along the top, which is one of the most desirable options for Ferrari in this generation. Although there is no doubt the California T’s exterior design is an improvement over the outgoing model, where the car really makes a leap in desirability is the running gear. Whereas the first-generation car uses a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V8, the California T utilizes a new 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8. This was Ferrari’s first use of turbocharging since the F40, and it produces 553 horsepower and 557 lb-ft of torque - when compared to the naturally aspirated car’s specs of 453 horsepower and 358 lb-ft of torque, it goes without saying that this car’s performance is in a different league. This engine is backed by a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels and helps the “T” do a 0-62 mph sprint in 3.6 seconds and achieve a 196 mph top speed. Suspension is handled by a magnetic ride system that offers flat, responsive handling while also soaking up bumps with the push of a button. For enthusiasts who want a Ferrari that they can use every day, there are few better options than the California T. With stunning performance and the all-weather practicality of a coupe that can become a convertible at the push of a button, it’s hard to find a situation the California T doesn’t excel at.

I note the car was serviced by Ferrari of Silicon Valley. Can I get their actual records, diagnoses and report? Car fax and the disclosures referenced below are superficial. Serious local buyer. If you do not want to share, that's OK - I just won't buy your car...
