Significance

Audi’s iconic RS line originated in the early 1990s with a collaboration with Porsche that resulted in an Audi station wagon that made the same power as a contemporary 911 Turbo: 315hp. Today, that tradition is very much intact; the RS6 station wagon and its RS7 hatchback derivative make a shade under 600hp, nearly the same as...a 911 Turbo, of course. Substantially similar to the RS6 wagon but with a more rakish silhouette, the RS7 can still carry 25 cubic feet of cargo and five humans, which it does beautifully. Four wheel steering gives the chassis surprising agility and poise, while the air suspension provides an impressive blend of body control and comfort. Power is transmitted via a sophisticated 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s trademark Quattro all wheel drive, which together deliver 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds.
