Significance

In 1984, Porsche debuted the update to their hugely successful 911 SC- known as the Carrera 3.2, the new model looked largely identical but under the skin, it was a very different car. The engine was claimed to be 80% new and featured an extra .2-liters of displacement as well as a more refined Bosch L-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and ignition control system. In addition to the engine changes, the brake discs were enlarged and the oil cooling system was improved for hot weather driving. In 1987, Porsche introduced the Getrag G50 gearbox to the Carrera, which was used with some modifications for the following decade in both the 964 and 993. A more precise gearbox than the previous 915 unit, the G50 was the first 911 transaxle to feature a hydraulic clutch, offering more consistent pedal effort and making them easier to use in stop-and-go traffic. These 1987-1989 Carreras have become known as the ones to have as they offer the ideal combination of reliability and ease of use while still maintaining the classic body shape and 911 driving characteristics that began to change with the introduction of the 964.

About this vehicle

This 1988 911 Carrera Cabriolet was produced on May 18th, 1988, and picked up at the factory for European Delivery by its first owner. Specified in Silver Metallic with a Black top, the interior is outfitted in Silver-Grey leather and features both power adjusting and heated front seats. The Hi-Fi Sound Package was fitted along with a power Clearly ordered by a driving enthusiast, the car was optioned with a limited-slip differential and a shortened gear lever allowing quicker and more direct shifts while driving fast. On the exterior, a set of forged alloy Fuchs wheels do a great job of completing the quintessential 1980s 911 look- especially with black painted centers and polished lips as seen on this car. According to what is known about the car’s history, it has spent most of its life in the San Francisco Bay Area and was serviced on a regular basis. In the last 11 years, the car has been driven less than 5,000 miles and presents very nicely for a car showing 99,335 miles. One of the many great things about this generation of 911 is, it can serve almost any role in your garage- comfortable and dependable enough to be a daily driver and engaging enough to keep as your fun weekend car, this Carrera Cabriolet checks all the boxes. Included in the sale is the original books, manuals, and warranty book with stamps as well as a space saver spare tire and factory jack.

Hello my name is Mark. I am interested in the 1988 911 cab. Has the car be gone through by a mechanic? Any accidents? Do you have the history of the car with the three owners? When will the auction close?
Can someone call me to discuss. THanks Mark 916-945-6265
