Significance
Part of a long line of compact mid-engined Ferraris dating back to the legendary 206 and 246 Dino, the F360 Modena bristled with innovative technology upon its introduction. The biggest news was undoubtedly the decision to switch to an aluminum chassis, which increased rigidity by 40% while simultaneously decreasing weight by 28% over the outgoing 355. The engine in the 360 was larger and more powerful, displacing 3.6 liters and producing 400 hp, a remarkable 111 hp per liter. It is a naturally-aspirated masterpiece with a screaming 8,700 RPM redline and like all proper Ferraris, is the centerpiece of the driving experience. Its performance is strong even today, with a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 189 mph. Aesthetically, the Pininfarina-designed car was thoroughly contemporary, and represented the first appearance of the now iconic clear engine lid cover on a Ferrari since the F40.
Also of note is that living with a 360 is considerably easier than its predecessor, thanks to an access port in the firewall that allows timing belt services without removing the engine from the car.
About this vehicle
This particular car is a desirable 6-speed manual Spider, which is well-equipped with fender shields, red brake calipers, Challenge grille, Daytona inserts, black piping, and headrests embossed with cavallini rampanti. The car has had three owners from new and spent its first 15 years in Texas and Georgia before its current owner brought it to California when he purchased it five years ago. It has been well-maintained, having been fastidiously serviced on an annual basis. It received a major service in 2016 and again in July of 2021 by ISSIMI Meccanica. During this most recent belt service, the tensioners, spark plugs, and cam cover gaskets were also replaced. Additionally the car was aligned and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires fitted fewer than 500 miles ago in February 2021. The car is unmodified aside from the addition of a Tubi muffler and LED rear lights from Scuding Swiss, which light up all four rear lamps when the brakes are applied and illuminate the indicators orange instead of red.The car is complete with records from the current ownership period, books, tools, and factory car cover.
