Since Ferrari’s early days, four-seat grand touring cars have been part of their lineup. These cars were frequently the most expensive in the brand’s lineup and offered the highest quality interior accommodations paired with a powerful V12 in front. In 2011, Ferrari unveiled their successor to the outgoing 2+2 612 Scaglietti, called the FF, it was a massive departure from the more conventional styling seen in the 612. A shooting brake, hatch back design was a foray into an entirely new design language for Ferrari but allowed for more usable back seats and greater rear trunk volume. The powertrain was also cutting edge–the F140 engine family had been seen previously in the Enzo and 599 but in the case of the FF was paired to a double-clutch gearbox and for the first time ever, all wheel drive. Utilizing a unique system patented by Ferrari known as 4RM, the all wheel drive setup is 50% lighter than a standard AWD system, can send power to any of the 4 individual wheels, drives like a rear-wheel drive car in most conditions and will disengage above 4th gear. All of these elements combine to create an exceptionally special car to drive and the most versatile Ferrari ever built. In 2016, Ferrari brought out the update to the FF, harkening back to grand touring cars of old, it was named the GTC4Lusso and featured similar, yet updated FF styling with more angles and hard edges. The power and torque went up in the new car, producing 681 horsepower and 514 lb-ft of torque and the 4RM system was updated to 4RM-S and includes four wheel steering. Capable of over 208mph, the GTC4Lusso is one of the fastest four-seat cars ever built and, when combined with its all wheel drive and hatchback body, is an easy way to use a Ferrari every day.
