Significance

Only the third all-new 911 since the model’s introduction nearly 50 years before, the 991 generation took the concept to the next level: more power, more grip, more sophisticated suspension, more competence. But critically, it retains the defining 911 ingredients that have made the model one of the most enduring sports car franchises of all time. One of those is the horizontally-opposed naturally-aspirated 6 cylinder engine, and another is the manual transmission, with 7 speeds for the first time. Available in both two and four wheel drive, the S variant adds 50 horsepower to bring the total output to 400hp even. The 4S is further distinguished by its full-width rear reflector to recall air cooled cars from 1974 to 1998, which accentuates the widened bodywork compared to lower trim models.
