Significance

Launched in February 2018, the 991.2 GT3 RS was the fastest and most track-focused GT3 to come out of Porsche at the time and set a new standard for street/track performance cars. Although visually, it was largely unchanged from the 991.1 generation car, the facelifted variant received a significant number of tweaks beneath the car that made it significantly sharper and shockingly fast on track. Many of the modifications came from the GT2 RS- these helped increase downforce while also aiding in cooling for the brakes, meaning that you could lap for longer without worry. Also, for the first time, Porsche offered a Weissach package on this generation GT3 RS that reduced weight considerably through the use of carbon fiber around the car.

About this vehicle

This 2019 GT3 RS is finished in the launch color Lizard Green and shows just 2,661 miles on the odometer. The outrageous bright green paint is accented by a gloss carbon front bonnet, roof panel, and rear wing, and the hallmark GT3 RS graphics down the door are finished in black. Beautiful satin bronze center lock wheels - size 20” in front and 21” in the rear - are wrapped in Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 tires and sit in front of a highly desirable set of Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) with yellow calipers. On the front bonnet, NACA ducts funnel air towards these brakes, which already offered nearly fade-free performance- but with the additional cooling, they will happily hold up to rigorous track work. The interior of this car is special because, although most GT3 RSs are fitted with hardback sport seats, this example was optioned from the factory with 18-Way adjustable units. Although some may critique this choice for adding weight, it makes the car far more usable every day, and given the tremendous power, the extra weight isn’t noticeable. These seats are wrapped in black leather with Alcantara centers and have Weissach stitching on the headrests. Other options selected to make this car more usable are a Bose surround sound system and front axle lift, which is crucial for getting this car’s low nose into driveways without scraping. Powering the GT3 RS is Porsche’s famed 4.0-liter flat-6, which received a 20-horsepower bump over the 991.1 GT3 RS. Still able to rev to 9,000 RPM, this engine is paired with a mandatory 7-speed PDK Gearbox that clicks off perfect, lightning-fast shifts while on track but is also pleasant to use while driving around town. Under the car, all of the suspension links are now fitted with solid ball joints, which offer greater control and less unwanted chassis movement. When the 991.1 GT3 RS debuted, Porsche set a lap time at the Nurburgring that was almost unbelievable- clocking a 7:20 run around the Nordschleife- but thanks to all the little tweaks around the 991.2, that number dropped by more than 23 seconds, resulting in a 6:54.4. This was just the 3rd Porsche to break the 7-minute mark around the track. The 992 GT3 RS is just making its way to collectors now and although it may be slightly faster around the track, it is becoming too harsh for road use. This 991.2 strikes an exceptional balance and is outfitted to be perfect for that sort of dual-use case. It has Certified Pre-Owned coverage from Porsche until December 3rd, 2024.
