Significance

Although these days Porshe is known for offering dozens of variants of the 911, it was not always that way. During the production of the 993 generation, two new models were added to the brand's lineup- both of which have become mainstays for the 911. These new models were the Carrera S and Carrera 4S. Based on the body shell from the 993 Turbo, the new cars featured widened rear fenders, an updated front bumper, and Turbo brakes, but were powered by the naturally aspirated flat-6 from the standard Carrera. The S and 4S also received the coveted Turbo-Twist wheels and a lowered suspension- all of these features combined to make what has become known as one of the greatest rear ¾ designs on any 911. The Carrera 4S went on sale in 1996 and featured Porsche’s brand-new all-wheel-drive system that debuted in the 993 Carrera 4. Utilizing a viscous coupling unit in place of the center differential, the 4S all-wheel-drive was lighter than that found in the 964, and offered improved driving characteristics on both wet and dry tarmac over the predecessor. With the Carrera 4S only being produced between 1996 and 1998, it is one of the rarer variants of the 993 and has become quite collectible in recent years.

About this vehicle

Sold to its first owner in Munich, Germany in February 1996, this car was under their singular care for more than 15 years before being sold to the South of France. Finished in a beautiful shade of Black Metallic, this color truly shows off the Turbo flares of the 993 Carrera 4S and makes for a truly beautiful car. It is being offered with a full set of books, manuals and tools. What truly separates this car from other 993s out there is the amazing interior color. Ordered from the factory in stunning Cedar Green, this deep green color was a rare option in period but takes this car from special to truly remarkable. Found on the seats, dash, door cards and carpet, the Cedar Green may not be to the taste of those who like a more subdued car, but for those who love it, it is positively irresistible. Additionally, this car was fitted with the Hi-Fi sound package with a remote 6-Disc CD changer as well as a full power Driver’s seat. Powering the 993 Carrera is a 3.6-liter M64 Flat-6 engine that produces 272 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque and loves to pull hard all the way to the 7,000 rpm redline. 1996 was the first year of the VarioRam system on the 993, which features variable length intake runners and is designed to optimize both low-down torque and high RPM power. The implementation of this system resulted in an increase of 14 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque. In this Carrera, the engine has been freshly serviced and is ready to be driven. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual Getrag gearbox with Porsche’s famous floor-hinged pedals. This engine benefits from recent servicing and is ready to be enjoyed. With less than 7,000 Carrera 4Ss built between 1996 and 1997, it is no surprise that they have become truly sought-after collectibles. This car, with its alluring and rare color combination, paired with recent servicing, means that it is ready to be enjoyed and will be a fantastic conversation piece at your next Porsche Club gathering.
