Built in 2013, this BAC Mono is just the 7th chassis produced by the company- denoted by the simple VIN of 0007 and is still under the care of the original owner. Although BAC sells complete cars, due to import regulations, chassis 0007 was sold in pieces that were professionally assembled by Lotus specialists Sector111 (now Inokinetic) in Murrieta, California. All of the work was carried out to an exceptionally high standard and with significant input from the team at BAC to ensure that every aspect of the build was properly completed. The body, which is currently wrapped in a blue mirror finish, is white beneath the wrap, while the fenders and side aero pieces remain the original gray color. The core section of the body, which all of the suspension and drivetrain hangs off, is built out of lightweight carbon fiber, and the 17” wheels are built in collaboration with Dymag and feature carbon fiber barrels and forged centers. Climb into the single-seat cockpit, and it is all business. Although the cabin is spartan, it is remarkably well-appointed with a nice combination of leather and Alcantara, accented by red stitching. The carbon-shell seat sits you low in the cockpit with your legs outstretched and positions your head right beneath the engine air intake. Since there isn’t really adjustability in the seat, an adjustable pedal set has been fitted and can slide closer or further from you, ensuring a perfect fit. The really exciting part of the car is the steering wheel- contained in the wheel is nearly every button to operate the car, as well as a full-color LCD screen that acts as your gauge cluster. A 6-point harness keeps you in place, and a multi-point fire suppression system was fitted while the car was being built to ensure the occupant stays safe even in the unlikely event of a fire. If you have always wanted to feel like you are piloting a Formula 1 car, this is as close as you can get with a license plate. Powering the BAC Mono is a 2.3 liter Ford Duratec inline-4 that is built by Cosworth. This naturally aspirated engine is said to produce 280 horsepower at 7,700 rpm and is paired to a 6-speed sequential Hewland transaxle with a limited-slip differential. Although this may not sound like the kind of powertrain that leads to earth-shattering performance, thanks to the Mono’s absurdly low 1,190 lb curb weight, the power-to-weight ratio is nearly identical to that of a Bugatti Veyron. Because of this, the Mono is capable of 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of over 170 mph. The suspension is pure race car technology with rose joints throughout and a pushrod suspension with adjustable dampers. AP Racing brakes are fitted at all 4 corners, and an adjustable brake bias system was optioned from the factory. Upon its release, the Mono began setting records around the world for its shocking speed on track, including the fastest car on street tires to lap the old Top Gear test track in July 2013 and the fastest car ever tested by Evo magazine around the Anglesey Coastal Circuit in 2016. Many manufacturers build what they claim to be a race car for the road, but nothing even comes close when put up against a BAC Mono.
