Significance
Since the Corvette’s introduction in 1953, it has long been considered one of the best performance values in the automotive world and is legendary for beating up on some of Europe’s fastest cars at a fraction of the price. For the first time, with the introduction of the 8th generation in 2020, the Corvette went mid-engined, which opened up performance possibilities even further. As the Corvette lineage typically goes, the standard variant comes first, and then the Corvette engineers have the opportunity to start working on some extra exciting variants- and the C8 generation may be one of the most interesting “special” Corvettes yet. The Z06 has always stood as the track-focused variant of the Corvette- and the C8 is no exception. It has been said that Corvette engineers benchmarked the Ferrari 458 Speciale when developing the Z06, and from behind the wheel, it’s hard to not think they made a better Ferrari.
About this vehicle
This 2023 Corvette Z06 was sold new through Classic Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC of Beaumont, Texas, and has been under the care of just one owner from new. Finished in Hypersonic Gray Metallic, this Z06 shows just 964 miles and is in essentially brand-new condition. The Z06 is immediately identifiable from a standard C8 Corvette by the large flared rear fenders and exaggerated air intakes on the side. At the rear, a Gurney-Flap style rear wing is complimented by 4 center-mounted exhaust pipes and a rear diffuser finished in black. In this example, the aggressive-looking black finish 14-spoke wheels sit in front of optional $9,000 carbon ceramic brakes, which are accented by red calipers. Additionally, up front, the optional nose lift for the suspension has been optioned, which aids in maneuverability in town and is a great feature to have on a low car. Another great thing about the C8 chassis is that all models feature a removable targa-style top made of glass. The chassis is so well designed from the factory that this top doesn’t affect structural rigidity and allows for both pure top-off enjoyment, or a closed coupe.
It is no secret that Corvette interiors from the past have been one of the car’s main detractors, typically full of shiny hard plastic and flat seats that are not conducive to performance driving. Thankfully, Chevrolet listened to all of those complaints and the C8- especially in 3LZ form like this car- has high quality materials, and a great design that puts to rest all of those issues. Black leather with contrasted white stitching is found throughout the cabin, and wraps nearly the entirety of the doors, dashboard and center console. The optional interior carbon fiber package fits the car with gloss carbon on sections of the door panels, as well as the center console that almost makes the driver feel like they are in their own cockpit.
Powering the Z06 is an all-new engine from Chevrolet called the LT6- this is the first motor from Chevrolet to feature a flat plane crank, and is only the second Corvette offered with dual overhead cams. With 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, this engine was granted the title of most powerful naturally aspirated V8 of all time, beating out the SLS AMG Black Series. Thanks to the flat-plane crankshaft, this engine will spin all the way to 8,600 rpm and has a sound unqieuely its own. This is paired to the same 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox found in the standard C8, but with a lowered final drive ratio which helps it accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds.
It feels safe to say that the C8 Corvette Z06 is the most well rounded Corvette to ever come out of Chevrolet. Finally fitted with a beautiful interior, an exotic engine and stunning styling, the new Z06 will no longer be viewed as the “bargain” performance choice but instead, a true contender against some of the best performance cars in the world.
