Significance

With the introduction of the 991 chassis 911, Porsche debuted a new version of the Targa that harkened back to the Targa models of the 1970s and 1980s. First offered on the 911 in 1967, the Targa featured a removable roof panel and metal rollover bar behind the driver and passenger, which was developed to skirt proposed US safety regulations, threatening to ban convertibles. This quickly turned into one of the most popular variants of 911 as it offered much of the open-air experience of a full convertible, without sacrificing structural rigidity or adding a huge amount of weight. But during the 993 generation, the Targa moved away from the removable roof panel and in its place, an all-glass roof with a large sliding sunroof-style panel. Although a nice option, these Targas were notably heavier and featured an entirely different roofline to accommodate for the new top mechanism, which led to the Targa becoming a rarely-selected option. This style of Targa continued through the 997 generation and although they spurred a bit of a cult following, they were not particularly popular. So, with the 991, Porsche set out to bring the Targa back in a big way.

About this vehicle

This 2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is finished in GT Silver Metallic wrapped in Miami Blue and shows 15,341 miles at the time of cataloging. A lifelong San Francisco Bay Area car, this Targa was sold new at Carlsen Porsche in January 2017 and has always been main-dealer serviced. The rich silver paint pairs well with the brushed stainless steel Targa bar and satin black-painted 5-Y-Spoke wheels. Although the Targa is, without a doubt a great sports car, it also makes a fantastic daily driver, and this example is optioned with a host of features to make daily use more pleasant. These include Lane Change Assist as well as Adaptive Cruise Control, and a front axle lift system means that getting in and out of driveways and over speedbumps is worry-free. The interior offers a beautiful contrast to the exterior, finished in two-tone Bordeaux red and black leather. A set of 14-way power sport seats with memory are wrapped in the dark red and black leather combination, and extended leather has been optioned on both the door panel and dashboard trim. Brushed aluminum trim is optioned throughout the interior and aluminum pedals and passenger footrest have also been fitted. As this is a true daily driver sports car, it has been fitted with the Bose surround sound stereo and a heated multi-function steering wheel with power steering plus. Powering this Targa 4 GTS is a 3.0-liter Twin-turbocharged flat-6 that, in 4S trim, produces 420 horsepower and 386 lb-ft of torque. Although there was initially some pushback against the turbocharging of most 911 variants, in truth, they produce a car that is exceptionally fast in any situation and doesn’t require you to rev the car out, to get around a slower car in traffic. This engine is connected to a 7-speed PDK gearbox which then sends power to all 4 wheels for optimum performance in all conditions. This setup allows the Targa 4S to sprint from 0-60 in a staggering 3.3 seconds and on to a top speed of more than 185 mph. The 911 Targa has always been a unique car, and with the reintroduction of the classic design for the 991, it will undoubtedly go down as one of the best Targas ever built. This example is finished in a perfect color combination and comes loaded with options that make it great to live with every day and a joy when you get to your favorite backroad.

Can you send me any video or photos of the car and paint/body condition before the wrap? Do you know when the wrap was done, was it after the reported accident on CarFax?

Thanks for your interest in this 911 Targa! Unfortunately, we are not aware of when the car was wrapped, or whether that pre-dates or post-dates the damage on the Carfax report. Regarding the damage, we also do not have any additional information, although we're confident that based on the carfax, the damage was likely minor parking lot damage.
