Significance
The Ford F-150 is consistently one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States and has held that title for decades. As trucks have become even more popular in the US, the F-150 has expanded its range to appeal to even more buyers- offering a basic single cab truck with rubber floor mats, all the way to the King Ranch and Platinum trim levels that fit them with luxury to rival the Cadillac Escalade, the F-150 has a variant for pretty much everyone. Although Ford briefly attempted to build a performance truck to stand as the halo to the F-150 range, it never really landed. But in 2010, they figured out how to build the most desirable truck on the market- one that even people who did not care about trucks could get excited about. Known as the Raptor, instead of producing a car for speed and performance on the road, Ford and its Special Vehicles Team (SVT) built a Baja pre-runner with long travel suspension, knobby tires, fender flares, and an updated interior. The Raptor was a runaway success, leaving other truck manufacturers scrambling to build something to compete in the segment.
About this vehicle
This 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor is finished in Agate Black Metallic and shows just 9,167 miles at the time of cataloging. Under the care of one owner from new, this F-150 benefits from over $10,000 in factory options and remains in excellent condition throughout. Fitted with the desirable Raptor 37 Performance Package, the 37” tires on this truck with unique 17” forged, bead-lock capable wheels in black are sized up from the standard Raptor and give this truck more of a Raptor R look. The front bumper is fitted with a set of Rigid fog lights from the Ford Performance catalog, offering additional lighting at the edges of the bumper that helps you see obstacles on the dirt road in front of you at night. To keep your belongings in the bed safe, a hard tonneau cover is included that fits securely to the bedsides but folds nicely into three pieces when you don’t want to use it, and fits perfectly in the bed of the truck.
Open the door to this Raptor, and the interior is quite inviting- up front, a pair of Recaro bucket seats are wrapped in black and dark blue Alcantara and leather, which are accented with splashes of orange stitching and the Raptor badge upholstered in the seatbacks. In many ways, Ford has perfected the truck interior over its decades of F-150 production, and the interior found in this Raptor R takes what they have learned and uses the best elements available in the company’s arsenal. A vibrant 12” multimedia display sits in the center console, and a configurable LCD display takes the place of your gauge cluster. Both the front and rear seats are heated, and dual-zone climate control is also fitted.
Powering the Raptor is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6 that is a detuned version of the engine found in the Ford GT supercar. Rated at 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, this F-150 Raptor is far more powerful than the earlier V8-powered examples and offers far greater efficiency and tuning potential to extract even more power. This engine sends that power through a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic gearbox to all four wheels. The suspension is handled by Fox Racing shocks at all four corners with “live valve” capabilities that adjust for changing terrain automatically. When paired with the 37” tires, this truck is pretty much unstoppable on rough terrain.
Even as other manufacturers have developed Raptor-inspired off-road trucks, the original is still the best one on the market. As a complete package, the Raptor does it all, offering a great driving experience, a high-end interior, and a powerful drivetrain to round it out. This example is in excellent condition and saves you from paying over sticker for a new one at your local Ford dealer.
