Significance

There is little doubt that the Ferrari Testarossa is one of the most well known cars ever produced by the Italian manufacturer. As the pinnacle of 1980s excess, with its side strakes and wide bodywork, the Testarossa became an icon and is frequently cited as the car that comes to mind when people think about Ferrari. After its debut in 1984, the Testarossa saw continuous refinement, leading to the 512 TR of 1991 and finally, the F512 M which debuted in 1994. As the final car in the brand’s flat-12-powered lineage that dated back to the 365 GT4 BB of 1973, the F512 M had to be both unique and limited edition. With just 501 cars produced between 1994 and the beginning of 1996, the F512 M is one of the rarest series-production cars of the post-Enzo-era and the ultimate expression of the famed Testarossa.

About this vehicle

This 1996 Ferrari F512 M is one of the final examples produced, built in January 1996 and delivered to its first and only owner in June of the same year. Sold via Swiss Ferrari dealer Garage Foitek AG in Zurich, the car has been exclusively serviced there since new, with stamps in the owner’s manual to prove it. Showing just 28.953 km at the time of cataloging, it remains in exceptional condition to this day. Finished in Rosso Corsa, the F512 M is easily distinguished from its other Testarossa brethren by a few significant design changes. The largest difference is the front end - where both the Testarossa and 512TR featured pop-up headlights, the M has exposed units with projector headlights, which are paired with a revised front bumper and front lid with dual-NACA ducts. At the rear, we see Ferrari’s return to the dual-round tail lights in place of the large single rectangular units on the previous Testarossas. And of course, it wouldn’t be an F512 M without the unique twisted 5-spoke multi-piece wheels from Speedline which are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires. The interior of this F512 M is wrapped in tan leather, with a black leather dash-topper. For anybody who is familiar with the interior of a 512 TR, it remains largely unchanged for the F512 M. The bucket seats are nicely bolstered, but still comfortable for long-distance touring - the Testarossa lineage’s specialty- and the orange-on-black gauges give the car a classic feel. The only real alterations from a 512 TR is the steering wheel, a chromed gear knob and drilled aluminum pedals. Powering the F152 M is the final iteration of the Tipo F113 “Flat-12” which displaces 4.9-liters. Power is up slightly over the 512 TR from 422 to 434 horsepower and torque is up from 362 to 370 lb-ft. But what makes the F512 M feel more race-car like is the use of titanium connecting rods and a new crankshaft which reduces the engine’s rotating mass by 16 lbs which makes for a very lively engine. Power is then sent through a 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. All of these upgrades were paired with the improved rear subframe of the 512TR and the numerous suspension tweaks which made the handling far better than that of the original Testarossa. The F512 M represents the end of an era for Ferrari. When the brand returned to the front-engine V12 cars it built its name on with the 550 Maranello, it left the flat-12 layout behind, with the “M” standing is the final variant in a long and successful lineage. This example has been meticulously kept from new under original ownership, and benefits from a recent major service to ensure it is ready to be driven and enjoyed by its new owner. Please note: All prices are listed in Euros for reference only. The final sale will be transacted in Swiss Francs (CHF).
